Mackenzie Kelly

Eager to be more connected to the community, Mac was elated to accept the role as Volunteer and Foster Coordinator. Mac grew up in Bel Air, Maryland, then attended West Virginia University, where she graduated with a degree in Animal Sciences and a minor in Equine Management. After graduating, Mac worked on a thoroughbred farm in her hometown of Bel Air, Maryland where she helped with the training and daily life of racehorses. About a year later, Mac moved to Denver, Colorado where her love for animals found an outlet through off-leash dog hiking in the mountains and fostering a dog for a local rescue. Before joining Sarge’s, she was a server at the 209 Café and briefly held a vet tech position at Country Lane Animal Hospital. Both of her previous jobs helped her directly interact with the Haywood County community and fall in love with it. Mac currently lives in Waynesville with her five dogs, four cats, twenty-something chickens, and two geese. In her free time, she enjoys throwing pottery, attempting to make sourdough bread, riding horses, kayaking, and especially hanging out with all of her critters. At Sarge’s, the volunteers make a profound difference in the life of every animal that passes through the doors. It is an honor for her to be a resource for these amazing people.
