From Waynesville to Germany: Werewolf’s Journey

Every rescue story begins with a moment of kindness, and for Werewolf the kitten, that moment started when a kind person opened their heart and fed a stray cat in need.

This kind neighbor had been feeding a stray cat when, one day, she appeared at his doorstep carrying tiny kittens in her mouth. She had just given birth and chose his home as a safe place for her babies. Unsure where to turn, he reached out to Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation. Without hesitation, we had a foster family ready to welcome this mama cat and her four newborns—Werewolf among them.

Growing Up in Foster Care

From just three weeks old, Werewolf and his siblings were raised in a safe, loving foster home. Their foster family cared for them around the clock, while our Medical Coordinator ensured they received the veterinary care needed to grow healthy and strong. As the kittens were weaned, they stayed in foster care long enough to continue building strength, confidence, and trust in people.

Love at First Sight

During his time in foster, friends and family of the foster parents stopped by to meet the kittens. One visitor in particular fell in love with Werewolf instantly. The only twist? She lived all the way in Germany.

Distance didn’t stand in the way of this connection. It was clear from the start that Werewolf and his future mom were meant to be together. The commitment was made to bring him across the ocean to his forever home, and that’s where Sarge’s stepped in to help make it possible.

Preparing for a Big Move

Before traveling internationally, Werewolf had to meet several important milestones. Per Sarge’s adoption policy, he needed to be neutered, microchipped, and medically cleared. Additionally, international guidelines required him to receive a rabies vaccine—which can only be given at 12 weeks of age at the earliest.  These steps were completed to ensure his safety and compliance with USDA regulations.

While his adopter patiently waited, Werewolf stayed with us a little longer. This time became important for his development. He blossomed into a confident, affectionate kitten and even became our “helper cat,” comforting and socializing more timid feline friends in our care.

A New Chapter in Germany

Finally, the day came when Werewolf was cleared for travel. He boarded a plane, crossed the ocean with his forever mom in Germany. We recently received an update: Werewolf is thriving. He’s happy, healthy, and adored. From a tiny stray kitten in Haywood County to a world traveler, his journey is nothing short of remarkable.

A Story of Connection

Werewolf’s story reminds us that love knows no distance. From a stray mama cat searching for safety, to a foster family opening their home, to an adopter willing to cross borders for her new best friend—every step of this journey was built on compassion.

At Sarge’s, we’re honored to have been part of Werewolf’s story. From our small town in Western North Carolina to a home across the world, this little kitten has proven that every animal deserves a chance at a life filled with love.
