Tripp's Legacy Lives On

When we launched our Tails of Tomorrow renovation project, adding AstroTurf to our play yards wasn’t part of the original plan. For 21 years, thousands of dogs have run, played, and found hope at Sarge’s. While our existing yards have served us well, a heartbreaking loss last month made it clear that we need to do more. Many of you followed the story of Tripp, one of our beloved dogs. Tripp consumed rocks while in our care and underwent emergency surgery to remove them. Despite the best efforts of our veterinary team, he developed complications and tragically passed away after becoming septic. Losing Tripp devastated our staff, volunteers, and everyone who loved him. It also prompted us to take a hard look at how we can prevent something like this from ever happening again. In Tripp’s honor, we are adding AstroTurf that’s specific for dogs and rescues to our newly renovated play yards.

This project will eliminate the loose rock surfaces in our yards, creating a safer environment for the dogs who depend on us while also providing a cleaner, more durable space for exercise, training, and enrichment. The total cost of this project is $32,000, which includes the removal of existing rock and professional installation of the turf. We need your help to make it happen. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to creating safer play spaces for the dogs who call Sarge’s home. Your support will help ensure that future dogs can run, play, and heal without facing the same risks that took Tripp from us far too soon. While we can never change what happened, we can honor Tripp’s memory by creating something that protects countless dogs for years to come. Thank you for believing in second chances and for standing beside us as we continue building the shelter our community’s pets deserve.
